The purpose of this analysis is to apply the industry analysis models Essay
The purpose of this analysis is to apply the industry analysis models introduced in chapter four. The two models are PESTEL and - Essay Example Rationale behind choosing the Retail Sector The study has selected retail sector under NAICS with code 44-45 (NAICS, 2013b). The retail sector is an important sector which covers a wide area of the business in todayââ¬â¢s world. The retail trade market accounts for almost 12.4 percent of the total business establishments in United States. The single store businesses are said to account for almost 95 percent of the entire United States retailers. Some of the big retailing companies include Wal-Mart, Zara, Target Corporation, Benetton Group etc. However, this study would be focusing on the retail trade industry in Canada. The study has selected this sector as it covers a wide segment of the business world with huge growth prospects. NAICS Industry Profile: Retail Trade Industry Retail trade is the sale of products and services by the individuals or the businesses to the end users. The retailers include a part of the integrated system known as the supply chain. The retailer buys prod ucts or goods from the manufacturers in large quantities either directly or through whole sale and then sells them in small quantities to the customers in order to gain good profit. This industry covers a huge portion of the businesses where retailing can be done in fixed locations by means of stores and markets, or can be delivered to the customers directly. The term retailer is applicable for the service providers as well. These service providers provide services like electric power, public utility and such for many individuals. The industry comprises of small business shops. These shops may be located in the residential streets, different shopping streets or in the shopping malls. Online retailing being one type of electronic commerce which is utilized in the business to consumer transactions i.e. B2C include non-shop retailing. The retailing industry can be said to be one of the most dynamic industries in the world. It is considered as the one of the ever growing businesses cate ring products and services to the changing needs and demands of the customers. The companies belonging to this particular industry sell the merchandises or products to its consumers from a definite location. Retail industry is the second biggest industry in entire United States in terms of both number of employees and establishments (Research and Markets, 2013). It generates a retail sale of $ 3.8 trillion annually. It also includes the largest sector worldwide. The next part of the project would be conducting the macro environmental analysis of the retail trade industry by means of PESTEL Analysis and Porterââ¬â¢s Five Forces Analysis. PESTEL Analysis The PESTEL Analysis helps in describing an essential framework of different macro environmental factors which are used in the environmental scanning of a particular organization (Pettigrew, Whittington & Thomas, 2006; Lorat, 2009). Political/Legal Canada is a democratic country with one parliamentary government. It consists of thre e main parts: a) Federal, b) Provisional and c) Municipal (Parliament of Canada, 2012). The government provides huge scope for the retail industry. It facilitates the growth in the industry. The policies on the economy and trading agreements as specified by NAFTA are essential to be followed by the companies operating in this industry (Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada, 2013). The increased limitations in the

Similarities Between Ghost Boy and Water for Elephants Essay Example for Free
Similarities Between Ghost Boy and Water for Elephants Essay The circus is a setting common to both the Iain Lawrence novel Ghost Boy and the 2011 film directed by Francis Lawrence Water for Elephants. The film and novel are similar in many ways. The circus during the Depression and the war provides and immediate similarity in the setting for both stories. Characters in both the film and the novel share similar traits and characteristics creating strong protagonists and antagonists. These characters are faced with similar conflicts as they embark on their journeys as circus workers. The setting is the most prominent commonality between the novel and the film. The physical setting of the circus and the hardships that accompany this lifestyle are realities in both stories. Traveling with the circus in these Depression era stories created a strong mood of desperation and conflict. Hunter and Greenââ¬â¢s traveling circus of sideshow ââ¬Å"Freaksâ⬠in Ghost Boy and the Benzini brothers band of sickly animals and brutal owner who terrorizes them, present circus life in both stories a a challenging one. This was an unforgiving environment offering no escape from the circumstances of circus life in these stories. Several characters from Water for Elephants and Ghost Boy have striking similarities. The protagonists from the movie and the novel are similar in many ways. Both Harold and Jacob are affected by very unlikely circumstances, that are out of their comprehension and grasp. Thus causing them to alter their decisions based on these unfortunate events. The characters Conrad from Ghost Boy and Rosy from Water for Elephants are the last hope for the resurrection of the circus. The elephants both have strong bonds that others canââ¬â¢t decipher. Both elephants show love towards their trainers as they foresee their salvation. Conrad although a kind and loving elephant was murdered harshly in the end of Ghost Boy for trampling a sideshow act. In Water for Elephants Rosy passed away peacefully of old age. These two unique characters mirror each other when it comes to otherââ¬â¢s needs. The characters in both stories had to face conflicts and consequences which coincided to reveal the similarities between the elements. The main conflicts in the book and film are Person versus Self. Due to conditions at home Harold and Jacob were forced to leave. Jacob had to endure the loss of his parents and their fortune. Jacobââ¬â¢s father had allowed people to keep tabs on what they owe. When Jacobââ¬â¢s parents passed away the tabs were wiped clean and Jacob had no money and no where to go. This resulted in an inner debate within himself. Likewise, Harold who was continuously harassed, was forced with an inner controversy to stay or go. All in all both characters had to face similar decisions which play a major in the unfolding of the rest of their stories. In spite of several similarities in elements between these stories, their plots remain independent of each other. However Ghost Boy and Water for Elephants closely resemble each other in terms of several elements. The setting of each story provides perhaps the closest comparison, but the characters and the conflicts they face make these two stories much more alike than different.

Switched Networks :: essays research papers
Switched Networks à à à à à Networks are getting more and more popular, and because of this more people use them, which slows them down. Networks in the future will need to have enough bandwidth to support applications, like multimedia, witch require larger bandwidth. Switching will change the way networks are designed. These changes will maximize productivity. à à à à à Switching technology is increasing the efficiency and speed of networks. This technology is making current systems more powerful. Many networks are experiencing bandwidth shortages. There are several reasons for this including: an increase in traffic, because networks have so many users, Amount of data between client/server applications, and the inefficient traffic patterns of most networks. à à à à à Switching directs network traffic in a very efficient manner. It sends information directly from the port of origin directly to its destination port. Switching increases network performance, enhances flexibility and eases moves, add-ons and changes. One of the benefits of switching is that it maintains a direct line of communication between two ports, and maintains multiple simultaneous links between various ports. It reduces network traffic by reducing media sharing. This technology has some benefits over ethernet routed networks. First, a 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps shared media can be changed to 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps of dedicated bandwidth. Routers have many devices attached to their ports, sharing the bandwidth. Switches let you to connect either a shared segment of bandwidth (workgroup) or a dedicated one (server) to each port. Second, this can be done without changing any software or hardware already on the workstations Finally, a switch installation is less complex than a bridge/router configuration. A ethernet LAN runs at 10 Mbps. Stations attach through a hub or repeater. Every station can receive transmissions from all of the stations, but only in a half-duplex. This means that stations cannot send and receive data simultaneously. In a ethernet network only one packet can transmit at one time, this is what slows down networks. The bridge, the router and the switch, all attempt to reduce transmission time to increase performance. A two-port bridge splits a network into two physical segments and only lets a transmission cross if its destination is on the other side. It also will only move a packet to the other side if it is necessary. This reduces network traffic because traffic on one side stays local. Routers link multiple networks together. It maintains the flow of traffic and routes data to the network that it must go to.

Shipping
This has Included the level of effort and costs associated with several courses of actions. I have also considered our obligations both legally and morally to our customer and our future customer. Our business has always held Itself and Its products to the highest quality standards and our customers in turn have rewarded us with continued trust and business. Our reputation and image should be a considering factor with any course of action that we take. I have carefully considered possible options and have identified three viable capabilities which would keep our reputation intact and provide the service our customers have come to expect. We can remake the whistle in question and repackage the entire collection; remove the whistle and ship the collection with a replacement of similar or higher value from our catalogue; keep the whistle Included but add a separate replacement of similar or even higher value with Instructions to discard the whistle and replace. Any solution should ensure the utmost customer satisfaction and provide our customers with the care and consideration, not to mention value, our customers rely on when they chose our company. It is also important to try to minimize the cost and effort required to remedy. This will not only minimize financial impact to the company but will help ensure we can remedial quickly in order to fulfill our shipments on time. All three have advantages and disadvantages which I will elaborate. The first option, remake the whistle in question and repackage the entire collection, has the advantage of providing our customer with exactly what they ordered and thus not Jeopardize the relationship we have In place. It would however be a significant undertaking as we would experience a great amount of labor for the remunerate and unpacking and repacking of the product.Legally and ethically there would be no issues but the financial impact of this approach would be about The second option, remove the whistle and replace with an item from our catalogue of equal value would allow us to utilize stock on hand and ship quickly. If the customer requests, we can ship the remade whistle at a later date. This option would remove the ethical and potentially legal concerns of shipping an unsafe reduce and if the customer accepts the replacement without requesting the shipping of the whistles to follow, would be significantly less costly than remaking the whistles in urgency to meet the shipping deadline. However, by substituting the whistle, even offering to ship the replacements at a later date, our reputation of accurate and timely shipping may be compromised with this customer. The third option, keep the whistle included but add a separate replacement of similar or even higher value with instructions to discard the whistle would save costs f remunerate and additional shipping. The schools could keep or discard the whistles as the whistle would pass any safety issues in South America. This would eliminate any legal concerns and would provide the best value to the customer and lowest cost to the company. However, knowing that these would not pass safety levels in the U. S. I feel that this would be highly unadvisable. If the schools chose to keep the whistles there could be resulting health issues to the children. My recommendation would be to proceed with the first option, to remake the whistle and repackage immediately. Although it is the most costly to the company upfront, the loss of reputation or customer faith would prove more costly in the long run.Our company prides itself on delivering to the highest levels. Compromised quality or orders the customer may feel are incomplete could damage the relationship and potentially future business. Additionally, any solution that may allow the tainted whistles in the hands of children could result in a more serious lack of confidence in our company. Our company is built on providing for educational and safe experiences for children worldwide. Anyth ing less would be unethical. In order to get in front of future issues of this type I recommend that we put in place a formal notification and escalation process for concerns of toy safety. We should clearly spell out what each employee is responsible to do and how the company will respond. If we consider potential issues before they occur and address the remediation it will remove any chance that we will be pressured into a fast and poor choice which may have long term impact to our company or our customers. I also recommend that we formalize the company ideals into a code of conduct that is available for our employees and customers. An excellent example that addresses responsibility to all stakeholders internally and externally is the code of conduct for the Matter Company. The Matter Company code of conduct addresses legal and ethical concerns and how to respond if there are concerns. (Matter Inc. , 2011) The Matter code of conduct removes any cloud of Judgment in a tough situation by addressing the concerns of the company, its stakeholders and its customers. It provides a clear explanation of the need and is easily understood. It includes core assign and play to grow.It also includes a value statement ââ¬Å"act with unwavering integrity' that makes the company's emphasis on ethics to be paramount. The code of conduct addresses the responsibilities of all employees and additional responsibilities of leaders to be role models. In addition it spells out the consequences that should be expected if the code of conduct is not adhered. I strongly suggest that we develop a complete code of conduct such as this that will provide a guideline for the company and its employees for any future events as well as the day to day expectations.

Apes to Man (Reaction Paper) Essay
Introduction Planet of Life: Apes to Man is narrated by Stacy Keach, presented by Discovery Channel. A must see documentary regarding the Theory of Evolution. Originally produced for Discovery Channel, each episode covers a separate chapter in the biography of the world. This episode examines the evolution with the use of computer animation. The film talks about how apes like Lucy, who is known to be a three million year old ape that walked upright or with two legs and revolutionized or grew and changed into one of the modern men and women who populate the world in every continent, nation and city today. The first stage in evolution is walking upright or with two legs just like Lucy did. The second is having the ability to speak or make different kinds of sounds. This is the cause of the straightening of the spine which allows the neck to follow for them to be able to speak. Summary One hundred million years ago, dinosaurs walked the earth. They no longer exist today because of the asteroids that hit their home and eventually killed all of them. The earth, after some time, regained its life forces because some small creatures that got through the great tragedy thatà put an end to the era of the dinosaurs. One of those creatures that survived were the purgatorious, one of earthââ¬â¢s oldest primates that may have evolved throughout the ages A new era of animals rose to the occasion to a new beginning and to starting a new kind of living amongst the changed world around them. One particular creature happened to explore and discover new things in its surroundings more advanced than others. In the late 18th century, Charles Darwin wrote a book called ââ¬Å"Origin of Speciesâ⬠. The book was intriguing. People thought he was losing his mind because most men and women during his time were very religious and really close to God. They didnââ¬â¢t believe him until a team of French-American researchers in the year 1974 found evidences of early apes. But by that time I think Darwinââ¬â¢s unlikely friends and haters wonââ¬â¢t be able to say it in front of him. The people who found Darwinââ¬â¢s inspirational evidence called it ââ¬Å"Lucyâ⬠. Lucy is a 3 million year old ape and is the very first one to walk upright or with 2 legs because according to the researchers she had wide hips like humans do. Archeologists say Lucy walked like a modern pig mea chimpanzee and bonobo. After a few decades, Lucy got to the second stage of evolution. And that is having the ability to speak or make different kinds of sounds. This is the cause of the straightening of the spine which allows the neck to follow for them to be able to speak and the rest is history. What Lucy became is what all of us are now. Generalization Evolution has really helped and changed every individual for the better. It made us realize and understand how the real world worked in the early ages and how it affected all of us today. We are now where we belong and that gives everyone the chance and the blessings they deserve. Reflection Personally, I do not believe in this theory as per the teachings in the Bible. There is no contest to what the Bible says about usà being formed in the image of God. But, for arguments sake, and if I were to believe it, let me just say that Darwin may have misconstrued the facts or the things he has observed based on the physical and genetic similarities of man and apes. He based his findings on the fact that because apes were able to walk upright, we are their descendants and from other scientistsââ¬â¢ findings on the similarities of man and apes from different eras. Other important human characteristics ââ¬â such as a large and complex brain, the ability to make and use tools, and the capacity for language added to the basis for his theory. Early human fossils and archeological remains offer the most important clues about this ancient past. These remains include bones, tools and any other evidence left by earlier people. Usually, the remains were buried and preserved naturally. Thinking About You A tornado flew around my room before you came Excuse the mess it made, usually doesnââ¬â¢t rain In Southern California, much like Arizona My eyes donââ¬â¢t shed tears, they pour When Iââ¬â¢m thinkinââ¬â¢ ââ¬Ëbout you (Ooh no, no, no) Iââ¬â¢ve been thinkinââ¬â¢ ââ¬Ëbout you (You know, know, know) Iââ¬â¢ve been thinkinââ¬â¢ ââ¬Ëbout you Do you think about me still? Or do you not think so far ahead? ââ¬ËCause I been thinkinââ¬â¢ ââ¬Ëbout forever (Ooh no, no) Or do you not think so far ahead? ââ¬ËCause I been thinkinââ¬â¢ ââ¬Ëbout forever No, I donââ¬â¢t like you, I just thought you were cool Enough to kick it Got a beach house I could sell you in Idaho You donââ¬â¢t think I love you, I just thought you were cute Thatââ¬â¢s why I kissed you Got a fighter jet, I donââ¬â¢t fly it though Lyinââ¬â¢ down thinkinââ¬â¢ ââ¬Ëbout you (Ooh no, no, no) Iââ¬â¢ve been thinkinââ¬â¢ ââ¬Ëbout you (You know, know, know) Iââ¬â¢ve been thinkinââ¬â¢ ââ¬Ëbout you Do you think about me still? Or do you not think so far ahead? ââ¬ËCause I been thinkinââ¬â¢ ââ¬Ëbout forever (Oooh) Or do you not think so far ahead? ââ¬ËCause I been thinkinââ¬â¢ ââ¬Ëbout forever And I remember, how could I forget How you feel And though you were my first time A new feel And it wonââ¬â¢t ever get old,not in my soul, Not in my spirit, keep it alive Weââ¬â¢ll go down this road ââ¬ËTil it turns from color to black and white Or do you not think so far ahead? ââ¬ËCause I been thinkinââ¬â¢ ââ¬Ëbout forever(Oooh) (2x)

Critical Essay on Beowulf
Critical Essay on Beowulf Critical Essay on Beowulf Beowulf is an epic poem in which the plot is intended to portray the unique heroism of German warriors. As the poemââ¬â¢s main personality, Beowulf displays exceptional boldness and extraordinary strength whenever confronted by fierce enemies. Additionally, he takes pride in his glorious actions that have earned him great fame throughout the poem. The reader can easily recognize in the epic the great heroic values of a society, such as the commitment to honor the responsibilities of a leader, whilst at the same time disregarding the safety of his warriors in an effort to defeat a dangerous foe. For instance, Beowulf allows Grendel to kill some of the warriors in an effort to surprise Grendel when he reaches for Beowulf. Beowulf also sets aside prudence when he pursues and fights with Grendelââ¬â¢s mother. Basing on the heroic nature of the poem, one would have expected Beowulf to put the safety of his men before anything else. On the contrary, Beowulfââ¬â¢s intent to def eat the monster supersedes his concern for lives of his men. Clearly, Beowulf focuses more on what is expected of a hero from his people than he does for personal safety or the safety of those who serve under him. This poem offers two perspectives of the key character. On the one side is a heroic Beowulf who is very brave in battle and leads his people to victory. The hero aspect in Beowulf begins for the main character at a young age, when he boldly participates in defending his kingdom by fighting two ferocious monsters. As the poem concludes, Beowulf is seen as a seasoned king who is viewed by his people as a veteran guardian. As a result of his heroic leadership, the Gaelic people enjoy profound peace as well as prosperity. Correspondingly, when a dragon threatens the security of the Gaelic people, the elderly king uses his heroic bravery to fight it alone. As is typical in any kingdom led by a heroic individual, the death of Beowulf is followed by the eventual destruction of the Gaelic people. On the other hand, the poem presents very few features of Beowulf as a regular human being. It is obvious that the poet has chosen to largely ignore Beowulfââ¬â¢s human aspects, and instead, depicts him as a superhuman hero. This is illustrated in the poetââ¬â¢s preference to concentrate on the exceptional exploits undertaken by Beowulf, typically the killing of brutal monsters. Because of this deliberate omission, the reader grasps a very minimal understanding of Beowulfââ¬â¢s daily activity and the way he relates with his closest associates. Similarly, the reader is only able to get a substantially sketchy picture of what Beowulfââ¬â¢s true feelings are. The reason for this is because the purpose of the epic poem is to illustrate to its people the characteristics they are to emulate in their own lives. However, considering that Beowulfââ¬â¢s heroism does not shield him from occurrences common to human beings, such as suffering, ageing, and death, it would have been b etter if the poet offered a picture of the human side of this apparently brave warrior, as well. Tips on critical essay writing: Some students find literature difficult to comprehend. Such students are likely to find critical analyses of literary works highly helpful. Thus, when writing a critical essay on a poem such as Beowulf, one should keep the language as simple as possible. By all means, the writer must avoid repeating phrases used in the poem. Another hint to good essay critiquing is to highlight important issues, and then identify mistakes or inadequately addressed areas. This will entice the reader to want to read more of the poem, in addition to teaching him how to critique a poem. English Summer Project Essay Essay Example
English Summer Project Essay Essay Example English Summer Project Essay Essay English Summer Project Essay Essay Connor Johanning English Summer Project A-2 Mrs. Razor The theme for my literacy is that everything has a connection. Such as during the summer, when I was on twitter I saw things regarding the shooting in the movie theater. I also saw news headlines on the subject along with facebook posts. At the time I was reading The City of Bones which is a book about violence and action and heroes. The connection between the book and the news was violence, violence is everywhere today, it has become ingrained in our civilization and is becoming a more regular thing. Back in the 1800s news of shootings outside of war was a very big deal. Nowadays, school shootings go nearly unnoticed after a couple of days, and no one seems to notice that in 24 hours 24 people were killed in shootings in the city of Chicago alone. Violence is a connection that can be seen in nearly everything today. During the school year while I was reading my assignments I noticed it said that hard work pays off in the long run, and that we should work hard once we are assigned a project instead of waiting until the last minute to do the project. I also saw that in the news there was an article on how hard work in school can help you improve your future life both financially and mentally. Hard work can prepare you for any task that would be hard to do. Hard work is connecting the assignment with the news. There is always a connection between two articles of writing, all literature is intertwined somewhere somehow in our minds. Something I noticed throughout this project is that I tend to read less formally in the summer, because there are less guidelines as far as reading. I can connect this to a web article that claimed that in the summer kids lose about 65-75% of all knowledge they gained over the school year. I found this claim very surprising yet I also find it understandable. Most children are not going to review notes during the summer to review for next years french courses or go over grammatical rules for fun. This is why summer projects are important to the curriculum. They give kids constructive work to do over the summer break that helps them retain some nowledge and habits they gained from last years classes. The last connection that I saw in everything I read was knowledge. In nearly everything people are trying to gain more knowledge. Whether it be the cure for a disease such as cancer or where the closest gas station is, people, whether they know it or not, are constantly consuming information in all ways. People learn from the news where the traffic Jams and road construction zones are. On twitter kids are finding out what everyone is doing and where people are going to hang out. On the web people are being fed information about anything they choose to look up, such as research on muscular dystrophy, or how old Micheal Jackson was when he started problem is people are less worried about retaining knowledge now that you can google anything you want. Connecting is a large part of literature as this project has shown me, I never thought that twitter could be connected to a book written 5 years ago, but never the less it can. Connections help us piece together everything we know, if we only have ne source of knowledge we cant expand that knowledge until further knowledge is gathered. If we have one book on a subject, we can read web articles that may or may not go into further detail, but may also point out other common facts not stated previously. Anything we see somewhere can be found elsewhere. The main connecting piece is our mind, which stores the information that we find and tells us how it shows up in other pieces of literature. Connections are made in everything and are what we use to gain and retain information.
